Building in Los Angeles

All projects in the City of LA are permitted through the LA Department of Building & Safety (LADBS). Citywide ordinances that drive most of the design constraints: the Baseline Mansionization Ordinance (limits Residential Floor Area on flat lots), the Baseline Hillside Ordinance (governs hillside grading, FAR, retaining walls), Historic Preservation Overlay Zones (35+ HPOZs across the city, each with its own preservation plan), and the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (Chapter 7A WUI construction).
